Jenny's Birthday Card

I woke up this morning thinking: "Oh my god I forgot to buy Jenny a birthday card". Then started thinking: "Uhhhh nevermind la, can get belated birthday card also ma". But I got to thinking: "Eh maybe can make her a card wor". I suddenly got that idea while browsing Mei-Yee's blog yesterday, she made Christmas cards on her own. Then I took out "Paper Made Easy" magazine, one which I bought in December because it was on 50% discount and I happen to love looking at craft stuff (but I don't get into gear doing them). I decided to copy a stitched card design because I bought threads yesterday to sew my lab coat button (for the umpteenth time) and my pants button (kept coming off, I'm pissed).

Heh, so I found the materials I needed, put them aside and went out for a while with the birthday girl. After I reached home, got started with the card. It's quite easy to do, completed it under 1.5 hours.

Materials

  1. Blue paper for the card. Must fit envelope.
  2. Thin light blue paper for the front of card. Must be smaller size than the size of the card's front.
  3. Paper cut into circles as shown in picture.
  4. Buttons.
  5. Same blue paper for the card, cut into a longish rectangle using criss-cut scissors.
  6. Cross-stitching thread.
  7. Normal thread.
  8. Foam.
  9. Stickers (optional).
Tools
  1. Scissors.
  2. Criss-cut scissors.
  3. Blade.
  4. Glue.
  5. Needle.
  6. Double-sided tape.
The following pictures show how it was done, step by step.

Materials needed.

Tools.

Paste the circlets like so on the thin paper. Sew the button on it, tie the cross-stitch thread facing upwards.

Use a normal thread to sew around the circlets.

Draw stem and leaves using a colour pencil.

The back of the thin paper should look like this. Use double sided tape to surround the edges. Paste the thin paper onto the front of the card.

Use a coloured pen to draw around the edges of this strip of paper. Write the message on it using coloured pencil, I used the same colour as the stem. If your paper seemed too long, add exclamation marks or a small symbol to make it symmetrical. Paste foam below the message.

Assemble the message like so. Add stickers if you like. And your card is ready!
