1. Place the gift into the gift box. Stuffing paper optional, but it'll look nice with it.
2. I labelled two ends of the ribbon, A and B. Bring the box on top of B (B is now the wrong side up). Pull A to a length where you can tie a bow on top of the box later. I usually pull 0.5 meters from the middle of the box.
3. Bring B to the right side up and cross with A.
4. Top part of box. Pull B and A tighter. Make sure A and B are all facing the right side up on top of the box.
5. Now we're looking at the bottom of the box. It should look neatly like this. Make sure both A and B are the right side up. Bring B towards yourself.
6. A clearer demonstration on bringing B towards yourself (B the wrong side up in this picture).
7. Now we're looking at the top of the box. Pull B upwards, make sure ribbon is at the right side up.
8. While holding A in position, bring B towards the middle of the box (you're going to create a cross).
9. Bring B over to the top left side of the 'cross', then pull the ribbon under the 'cross' (B the wrong side up in this picture).
10. Tadaa! Cross created with A and B ends free to form a bow, make sure you adjust B to the right side up before making a bow.
11. Tie a bow in however way you like.
12. If you don't like the cross to be symmetrical, you can adjust it like so.
13. Because this ribbon has wires in it, I made some folding patterns like so.
14. Slightly pull the ribbons after the folds are created. Final product!
For normal tie-around with bows, 1.5-2.0 meters ribbon is sufficient. For bigger boxes, what you can do is bring the ribbon around the box until you can go all across it, then add 0.5 meters to the length for bow-tying.
