As I type in MS Words, I get spelling errors highlighted before me. I am an egoistic person. I actually DOUBT the programme. YES, PROGRAMME, not PROGRAM. I would check the online dictionary and scrutinise the entries for the word 'chiefly British' and proof myself correct. And I learn something new every time I type.
Professor Higgins (fictional character in My Fair Lady) said "Well in America, they haven't used it (English) for years".
Off hand, here are a few American way of spelling words as opposed to the British.
a) Program (Ame). Programme (Bre).
b) Any word that ends with '-ize' (Ame). '-ise' (Bre).
c) Our favourite. Color vs. colour.
d) Favor vs. favour.
e) Tumor vs. tumour.
f) Artifact vs. artefact.
So, the next time you're writing using British English, make sure you don't set MS Words to auto correct your spelling! I know there's a British dictionary in MS Words I can use, but I don't know how.
And I'm too lazy to find out.
