United Support of Artists for Africa (1985)

THIS IS NOT A MICHAEL JACKSON ENTRY.

Nevertheless, it was MJ who got my brother interested in this song, who got me EXTREMELY interested in this song. I proclaim my love for studio-recording music videos (e.g. Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men - One Sweet Day). So one week after MJ died, I suddenly thought of this song. As I watched the video, I realised how much I love how so many artists parts were recorded and pieced together.

We are the World.

Then I started Wiki-ing about the song again. I found out who sang all the solo parts. Found some interesting notes about the parts which were taken out. Then I went to find the making. After some painstaking search and streaming, I found a 9-part video in English on You Tube. I watched it twice man.

The making of We are the World. Part 1.

Interesting facts I found.
  • MJ skipped the 1985 American Music Awards to come into recording earlier so that they have a guide on the chorus for the recording session. That recording became the footage of the first chorus of the song.
  • The group chorus was recorded next.
  • The solo parts after that.
  • Finally, the solos and duets of the last few choruses.
DAMN NICE.

Pho Hoa, Tropicana City Mall

Mr. Shu and I finally visited Tropicana City Mall. It's small but lots of interesting outlets there! First, got cinema in the form of GSC. So near, how great is that?! Then they have Subway. Starbucks. San Francisco and Santini (one day...). Borders. Enough said. I saw an interesting book in Borders - Looking for Schindler (or something like that). Another holocaust-related book. Looks nice! Has a short comment by Steven Spielberg on the cover too man.

So anyway, we passed by a Vietnamese noodle restaurant and decided to give it a try. The noodles are yummy to the max. Drinks are sugarless (both of us ordered tea). Mr. Shu's beef noodle soup taste yummy. But terlalu beefy for my liking. The soup is nice. Very herbally-taste. Mine is the spicy and sour seafood. Yummy soup, not too spicy. If I can tahan the soup maknanya not spicy for most of you lah ok? The sotong was not fresh though. Other than that, thumbs up! They gave us a plate of basil leaf and bean sprouts (reminded me of Veron - she hates them) to add to the soup. The bean sprouts, we finished. The basil - practically untouched. Wah the smell too strong, I beh tahan. Anyway, on our next visit we're going to as for 'more noodles' (apparently no extra charges) and 'no basil'. Total for both of us = RM 36. It is still government tax-free. All the more factors for its yummy-ness.

Sugarless ice teas. Not nice.

Beef noodles. Damn nice the soup.

Along comes the veggie.

Spicy and Sour seafood noodles.

Remember, the noodles we ordered was the pho. Not the vermicelli. Order pho!!! Very yummy!!!!!! At first, I was looking into ordering vermicelli but it comes with TOO MUCH vege!

Simon and Max

Home-cooked-personalised-economical western food in Paramount. Operates at night only. Does catering too. The restaurant is behind the row of shops the same row as Caltex on the way to Section 14 that main road. Ahh...it is behind 2 hawkers (both corner shops divided by a road).

Anyway, Mr. Shu and I discovered this place when we're taking a short cut. We decided to give it a try for dinner. Verdict: BEST GARLIC BREAD I've ever tasted in my life. We'll be there again to sample other dishes. *so hungry now*

Eck...the price is about RM 20 per person. Depends on what you order. Besides western food, they have tong sui also. I call this home-cooked because I think Simon and Max themselves cooked everything. They only have few tables, around 10? And the food comes quite slow (have to wait) that's why I say it's personalised also. Nothing ready made I think.

This garlic bread kan, has lots of garlic-butter spread and herbs. They are toasted to perfection. Thin and crispy (not hard).

Mr. Shu's lamb shank. He likes it. I like the mashed potatoes.

My chicken and mushroom spaghetti. Not so hu-ha for me.

Drinks, you've got to order from the hawker in front of the shop. They only sell tong sui here. Repeat: best garlic bread ever.

TRAFFIC JAM! Now Drinking My Favourite Coffee

I drove for 1 hour and 15 minutes earlier and still have not reached home. So I diverted to Sunway Pyramid. Now sitting in Coffee Bean (great wifi man, fast) drinking my favourite tall vanilla ice blended coffee without whipped cream (controlling my diet now, so called, but I also hear that coffee makes you fat, but that's besides the point), MSN-ing (read: gossiping), looking for articles, replying emails and facebooking.

Pyramid is very quiet in the old wing area. In front-above me, I can see messy computerware boxes stacked up everywhere...

Banyak warga asing di Coffee Bean hari ini. ...

Esquire Kitchen is practically empty. Dragon-i has more customers.

It's now 9 pm. You think traffic ok already kah?

Random Phone Shots

I take photos from my phone but always too lazy to upload them to my computer (something is always wrong with the memory card reader). Anyway, the other day I HAD TO CLEAR the photos. So many taken and all so messily named. When I looked back at the photos, the green tinge on all the photos really make me say !@#$%^&. So, a note: all photos here are colour-balance-adjusted to give a healthy red-yellow glow. Beh syok my phone camera at all!!!!

9:29 PM, listening to 92.90 FM. I swear the taking of this photo wasn't planned.

Holey ground (ooh good pun). What used to be a car park.

Huge fly on a mannequin in Metro Jaya.

Lab Paraphernalia Junkie

If you have my FB you'd probably have seen this. SUPER OLD PHOTOS! Anyway, I love collecting lab things. Especially during clean-outs (that's when I get most of the stuff I have anyway). I keep all of them in a nice treasure box from IKEA. Actually in my lab drawer I still have an envelope-full of stuff like these, just not transported home yet. Open my treasure box!

What I see when I open my box.

Tubes collected / recycled along the course of a BSc. final year project (Falcon tube) and MSc. project (baby blue covered tube).

Disposable syringes without needles.

BSc. final year project.

Pasteur pipettes. Yes, once I was visiting Daniel next door during BSc. final year project, I saw that he has lots of glass Pasteur pipettes so I asked him for one :).

Oh super nice the mouse liver in paraffin! From BSc. Histology class! Dr. Durriyyah said it can be simpan-ed around 5 years (?). I took that as 'selama-lamanya'. 4-well plates from BSc. final year project.

Cell culture products. All taken from clearing the lab.

Yummy cute trident vials.

Colourful microtubes taken from clearing the lab.

BSc. Histology class souvenier. Bad fixation quality. I used too much Mayer's albumin.

Slides made during BSc. Biohealth Laboratory class.

Teflon (PTFE)-coated slides taken from clearing the lab.
